Where in the World is Wald-oko?

The last few weeks have been filled with business trips. Up to Milwaukee a few times for meetings with Harley-Davidson. And to Holland (michigan) for a trip to visit our client, Haworth. And most recently, yesterday, to Dallas to pitch some business to Travelocity.

I still have not snapped a pic of the H-D headquarters, but here are a few pictures of the Haworth and Travelocity HQ buildings. They are LEED certified gold and silver, respectively.

The pictures above are of Haworth HQ. The Haworth facility is just an absolutely impressive and beautifully planned sustainable space. Their brand new HQ was built to house their corporate employees as well as serve as a showcase for their products and services. They are one of the leading providers of products and services as it relates to corporate space planning. Their biggest competitor would be Herman Miller.

The first picture is taken of the lobby from above. The initial surface is terrazo and then switches to blocks of frosted glass. The second picture is taken from the lobby level looking the length of the building. There is floor to ceiling open space and then all work spaces are to the left. The last picture is taken from the back area of the building toward the front entrance - but an outdoors shot. The architects planned everything about this building to show off their thought leadership in the area of sustainability. For example, the wall of windows was built at a slight angle to create natural shade for the patio area beneath it and to minimize window washing since the rain and dirt just slide off the angle. Also, they raise the floors by about a foot to run HVAC, data and wiring underneath the floors. They also run white noise machines underneath the flooring to counterbalance all the office noise as well as the noise and echos from the large open atrium. Lastly, they planted a green roof to minimize rainwater waste and maximize temperature control throughout the seasons. Cool, huh?
If I were brave enough, I would decorate our home in the contemporary style. I really have changed over the years to come to appreciate the look and aesthetic. I think I'm just too messy, though, to carry it off well. Heh, some habits die hard...

These pictures are of the Travelocity building. Their campus was enormous- Sabre Holdings is their parent company... At anyrate, it was a beautiful day in Dallas and we thought it was pretty cool that there was a farmers market actually inside their offices.
We're supposed to hear back on this business by Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
Speaking of business travel- why has The Mar not posted any pics of her trip to the Kuwait, et al?
